How Thai rice improves global health

Thailand has been cultivating rice for 5,000 years. Now, the country is taking the lead in investigating how rice production can help protect against non-communicable diseases. “Lately, Thailand has been looking into developing healthy rice, like red jasmine rice,” says Dr. Sreenivasulu, Rice Research through Enabling Technologies, Head of Grain Quality and Nutrition Center at the IRRI. “In addition to being aromatic, red jasmine rice also offers antioxidant properties, which provide benefi ts like antidiabetic and anti-cancer properties.”
